Dear Members and Friends of the Portsmouth Democratic Party,
We need your help. While the presidential race takes shape and discussions focus on national concerns, we still have important issues right here in Portsmouth. Great progress has been made during the past term, but much is at risk at our local elections in November.
During the past two years, Portsmouth Democrats fought hard for things that make a difference in our town now and for the future. Your Democratic Council members led the charge to improve our Town Charter, to advance the use of wind power, to make the difficult decisions needed to invest in our high-performing schools, to preserve open space, to put the divisiveness of the tent meeting and the Caruolo action behind us, and to make gains in the efficiency of town operations.
But these battles have not been easy. On key questions, Portsmouth Democrats have achieved results for you with a bare four-to-three vote. Think of what might be lost if just one Democratic council or school committee member were sick on the day of a crucial vote! We need more Portsmouth Democrats serving as elected officials. This year’s slate of candidates is now in place.
In the last election here in Portsmouth, Republicans outspent Democrats by thousands of dollars in a campaign where the difference between winning and losing the final council seat was a mere 22 votes. In this environment, every single vote and dollar counts.
